ABL Partners Uber to Commemorate BE(ER) Responsible Day

15th September 2017
Accra Brewery Limited (ABL), a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world’s largest brewer, has partnered the transport company, Uber, to drive home its commitment to smart drinking in commemoration of Global Be(er) Responsible Day (GBRD).
The Day, themed “Drink Smart Today, Celebrate Tomorrow”, is focused on bringing awareness to issues of harmful drinking and promoting smart drinking within the business, amongst the company’s partners, and its consumers.
Mr. Philip Redman, ABL’s Country Director, said “Harmful drinking concerns us, and we know that more needs to be done by us, our industry peers, civil society and government to reduce the harms caused by the misuse of alcohol. That is why we are partnering Uber to offer discounted rides for consumers visiting selected pubs and sports bars around Accra”.
“We are doing this to let our consumers know they are dear to us and we care enough to see to it that they get home safely after a night out, as well as to ensure every experience associated with our beer is a positive one,” Mr. Redman added.
ABL has implemented several initiatives in partnership with private and public sector partners, to tackle the problem of harms caused by the misuse of alcohol. These initiatives, which include the Responsible Retailer Programme, Alcohol and Pregnancy Programme and Anti-Underage Drinking campaign, form part of its quest to create a Healthier World unencumbered by the ramifications of alcohol abuse.
These initiatives are also part of the company’s Global Smart Drinking Goals which encapsulate its efforts to make a deeper investment in programmes that measurably shift social norms and behaviours toward smart drinking.
Touching on the selection of Uber as partner for Global Beer Responsible Day, ABL’s Communications Manager, Ms. Joscelyne Ahiable, attributed the decision to Uber’s relative ease of access, affordable prices, comparative comfort and safety.
“Our partnership with Uber stems from our belief that smart drinking choices affect everyone, every day”, Ms. Ahiable said. “As a result, we will remain committed to helping foster a global culture of smart drinking to reduce the harmful use of alcohol,” she firmly concluded.
GBRD was birthed in September, 2009, when Anheuser-Busch InBev colleagues from over 20 markets around the world collaborated to promote the company’s sustainable development agenda of creating a better world in local communities. Now in its 8th year, GBRD has since blossomed into a fully-fledged annual programme celebrated by hundreds of thousands who are passionate about working to promote smart drinking.
Fares for Uber riders visiting such drinking outlets as HoneySuckle (ANC Mall & Osu); Champs (Paloma Hotel); Gold Coast (Airport Residential Area); and Venus (Osu) were heavily discounted in commemoration of the Day.
