STUDENTS OF KAAF UNIVERSITY COLLEGE TOUR ABL

18th April, 2018

Accra Brewery Limited, (ABL), a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev), the world’s leading brewer, hosted Level 300 and 400 students of KAAF University College’s Marketing Department as part of its commitment to investing in a Growing World, where everyone has the opportunity to improve their livelihood.

ABL’s Director of Legal & Corporate Affairs, Ms. Adwoa Aaba Arthur, welcomed the students when she stated that “as a proud part of ABInBev, our Dream is to bring people together for a better world. We achieve this partly by supporting tertiary education through brewery tours, where students are able to learn about innovations in the beverage manufacturing industry”.

From Grain to Glass: The Brewing Process

Mr. Felix Arhin, Area Specialist with our brewing team, took the students through a highly-interactive session on how we brew our beer.

Simplifying the process, Mr. Arhin explained that brewing beer is a “natural process that begins with milling essential ingredients comprising of barley, hops, and grains (sometimes cassava).”

He informed the students that the milled ingredients are mashed with water and boiled in our brew house, fermented with yeast and kept in fermentation tanks to mature. Further, after the maturation period, the beer is filtered and sent to our packaging lines for packaging.

From Grain to Glass: The Packaging Process

On a guided tour of our packaging lines, the students keenly listened to Mr. Bernard Adzomadi, ABL’s Quality Specialist who explained how filtered beer from our filtration halls is sent to the Filler Bowl. Here, empty bottles that have been washed, checked and approved by the Empty Bottle Inspector are filled with the beer. The filled bottles are crowned with caps, and taken through a number of quality checks before packed into crates for nationwide distribution.

After the tour, Mr. Laryea Aha-Akrong, a lecturer in Product Development and Branding at KAAF University College, expressed his gratitude to ABL for granting the students an opportunity to better appreciate the theory aspect of their course with practical experience.

Commenting on the tour, Mr. Aha-Akrong said, “I was especially pleased with the safety measures here at the plant and I am glad that these measures are instilled in everyone who visits or works at the plant”.

In addition to our Dream of bringing people together for a better world, we also invest in a Cleaner World where our natural resources are shared and preserved for the future; and in a Healthier World where every experience with beer is positive.
