Central University’s Management Student Association Visits Our Brewery

CENTRAL UNIVERSITY’S MANAGEMENT STUDENT ASSOCIATION VISITS OUR BREWERY

27th February, 2019

Accra Brewery Limited, a proud part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABInBev) family, hosted Central University’s Management Students Association during an industrial visit, as part of our Dream of bringing people together for a better world.

Addressing the students, ABL’s Legal & Corporate Affairs Director, Ms. Adwoa Aaba Arthur, stated that “as a proud part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) family, we are always happy to interact with students during our brewery tours”.

Also, “ABL organizes these tours which give us a platform to share with you our knowledge and experience as dedicated employees of this company”. In addition, these tours are a part of our Better World agenda to invest in a Growing World where everyone has the opportunity to improve their livelihood.

The students were taken through a safety induction, a “Grain-to-Glass” tutorial, and a tour of our Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and Returnable Glass Bottle (RGB) packaging lines to observe how ABL packages its beverages for nationwide distribution.

Brewing our beer from grain to glass

In a presentation to the students on our beer making process, ABL’s Quality Manager, Mr. Wisdom Kofigah, mentioned that ABL is a company of brewers committed to brewing the best beers using the finest natural ingredients.

He informed them that barley, water, hops, and yeast are the key ingredients for brewing beer. During ABL’s brewing process, each of these ingredients contribute tremendously to the production of beer, however, some brewers add adjunct grains such as corn and rice; spices, honey, sugar, and fruits to acquire a unique taste.

Bottling beer

At our packaging lines, Ms. Georgina Kyei Baffour, Training Controller at ABL said that our company runs 3 packaging lines, namely the keg line for draught beer; the PET line for non-alcoholic beverages; and the RGB line for bottled beer.

During the tour, she informed the students that bottling at our RGB lines begins with depalletizing (removing crates of empty bottles from pallets). Then the bottles are uncased (removed from their crates) and washed before being conveyed to an Empty Bottle Inspector (EBI). This equipment either rejects bottles with defects or approves ones in good condition to a Filler to be filled with beer.

The filled bottles go through a number of quality checks before they are finally packed into crates and palletised (stored on pallets) for onward distribution nationwide.

A Student’s Gratitude to ABL

Mr. Evans Kobina Mensah, the President of CUMSA, mentioned that the students embarked on the visit since they wanted to acquire practical knowledge on Logistics Management and Production.

He remarked that the tour exceeded their expectations, and he expressed his profound gratitude to the staff of ABL and its Management for the invaluable experience. He was especially thankful to Ms. Arthur for her advice on how to get noticed on a job, focus on excelling and networking effectively for future job prospects.

In addition to our investment in a Growing World, we also invest in a Cleaner World where our natural resources are shared and preserved for the future; and in a Healthier World where every experience with beer is positive.
